This is me, the shitty gamdev. I work as a freelancer web developer. Since I got my first C64 everything is about programming (it started with some BASIC language stuff on C64) and gaming.
Gaming in the 80s/90s
Back in those days, gaming wasn’t mainstream at all, and if you wanted to play a game, you had to type in some weird prompts into the computer. Later, on my first personal computer, it got easier, but still: To get all the games to run, you had to manage the memory (every KB counted). I guess this is the reason, why so many people at my age (birth in 1983) have a basic understanding of computers and programming languages.
Web development
Since 2010 I am working as a freelancer web developer for clients all over the world. My main focus are custom web applications and custom CMS websites or plugins in WordPress or TYPO3 CMS.
But after all these years of writing web code, I wanted to get back to something, that has nothing to do with making profits or handling web protocols. So this is the reason, why I wanted to create a game – or at least: See, how long I can keep up before I give up (to be realistic: The odds are against me).
The mission
I want to create a game, that is a mix between games like Crusader Kings III and Rimworld or Dwarf Fortress. I like the idea of seeing how individual characters live their lifes, but also I want to have the impact and the big scope of global events. Since I am a huge fan of roleplaying games, I want to have an open ending depending on hard choices you have to make and I also want to bring the flavor of randomness to it.
