Different moods visible in portrait

Up to now, I showed the mood of each resident by coloring the background green for a high happiness or red for an angry resident. You can see a screenshot of that version in this article about tilemaps and locations. The readability of that was very high, but it a.) didn’t look good and b.) it wasn’t really immersive since even if a resident was angry, he could make a happy face. This would not do.

Adding moods to portrait

So I started to implement a system, where each resident can load different sprite variations depending on the mood of the resident. This is reflected in the screenshot above.

But in the future, this system should not only apply to happiness modifications. The user should also see, if a resident is wounded, if he is sick or other things that could be informative.
